Overnight Through +2SD Held Cash. Green Rebound. Path Inherits.

Overnight through-+2SD on the Wednesday-anchored map became cash acceptance. AP: S&P 7,637.76 +1.1%, Dow 51,778.04 +0.6%, Nasdaq 26,418.30 +1.7%. Claims 196k; starts −2.6% with SF +7.6%; Philly 37.8; pending homes +0.3%. Yields and oil eased. Path still inherits 3.75–4.00.

Thursday, September 17, 2026

Morning Prep framed overnight bid through daily +2SD on the Wednesday-anchored map — ES, NQ, YM, and RTY — as spent geography after a soft cash close and a printed hike. Cash accepted that overnight repair. The S&P closed 7,637.76 (+1.1%). The Dow closed 51,778.04 (+0.6%). The Nasdaq led at 26,418.30 (+1.7%). The Russell finished 2,874.63 (+0.6%). Housing starts and permits printed softer on the total while single-family starts rebounded. Claims fell to 196,000. Philly Fed activity cooled to 37.8 and stayed expansionary. Pending home sales nudged +0.3%. Yields and oil eased. Soft Wednesday was the prior close. Green Thursday was the cash answer.

RTH Market Prep was the day clock, not a forecast. Thursday’s job was to mark what Globex already spent on the new Wednesday-anchored field, treat the 8:30 housing and claims cluster as context for path inheritance — not a chase license after overnight already used through +2SD — and keep the sealed hike separate from cash acceptance of overnight geography. Cash validated the overnight through-+2SD bid as acceptance. Soft follow-through from Wednesday still does not authorize inventing the next hike as a fact.

This note does not rewrite Week Ahead, September 14–18. Thursday’s RTH Market Prep had the overnight +2SD geography and the housing clocks. Wednesday’s After the Close locked soft cash after the vote and left today’s card sealed. That handoff flipped on acceptance — not on a re-vote.

What cash had to live with

Overnight already worked through daily +2SD on the new map. House daily field — anchored to the September 16 soft closes from the morning publisher — put ES daily 2SD high at 7,696.60 off 7,556.50, and NQ at 29,643.89 off 28,963.50. Prep had ES last near 7,721 with a high near 7,722 through +2SD, and NQ last near 29,741 with a high near 29,753 through +2SD — same pattern on YM and RTY. Gold sat inside the new daily 1SD field. Crude cooled inside the lower half of its new daily band. That was overnight geography. Cash still had to vote.

Cash voted green. Associated Press (via WTOP): S&P 7,637.76 (+85.95 / +1.1% vs Wed 7,551.81), Dow 51,778.04 (+316.14 / +0.6%), Nasdaq 26,418.30 (+439.87 / +1.7%), Russell 2,874.63 (+15.82 / +0.6%). Green Thursday after soft Wednesday. Nasdaq led the repair. Soft Wednesday after soft Tuesday after soft Monday after Friday’s green open-to-close still stay separate sentences when the week path matters — the week scoreboard is still soft on the S&P (−0.3%) and Dow (−1.5%) even as Nasdaq sits +0.3% for the week.

Do not conflate cash with futures last. On the house futures board, ES printed a high near 7,722.25 — matching the overnight through-+2SD tag — and closed near 7,702.5; NQ printed a high near 29,793.25 and closed near 29,716.5. Cash open-to-close is the equity vote. Futures last is a different sentence. Absolute CME settles stay held until a settled board is verified.

Morning clocks printed — context, not a re-vote. Census New Residential Construction for August: starts SAAR 1,275,000 (−2.6% m/m), permits 1,394,000 (−2.7% m/m), single-family starts 918,000 (+7.6% m/m). Same 8:30 window: DOL initial claims 196,000 for the week ended September 12 (−10k from 206,000; Labor Day week seasonal caution) and continuing claims 1.730M. Philadelphia Fed current general activity 37.8 (from 47.4) — cooler, still expansion. NAR Pending Home Sales Index 71.2, +0.3% m/m, −4.7% y/y at 10:00. Housing and labor context into path inheritance. Not a license to invent the next hike — and not a license to treat overnight’s spent +2SD band as fresh chase size after cash already accepted it.

Statement already printed. Paths still inherit. Wednesday’s vote — funds range 3.75%–4.00%, 12–0, SEP medians funds 4.1 / PCE 3.7 — stays on the tape. Thursday’s green cash does not reopen the ballot. AP’s tape context: 10-year yield eased to about 4.93%; Brent fell about 1%. House board: CL last near 101.27 after Wednesday’s 102.43 anchor — further cool inside the daily field while higher-timeframe stretch stays loud. Gold last near 4,384 inside the Prep daily 1SD band.

Vol compressed into the rebound. Into the close (house board): VIX 15.44 (Wed 17.71), VXN 19.96 (Wed 22.44), GVZ 24.98, OVX 52.11. Morning Prep EM run already had VIX near 15.47 with OVX still loud at 57.49. Oil vol cooled and is still not “quiet.”

Locations — reference only

No new Thursday Daily/1h stack grades were verified for this close. Treat morning Prep bands and overnight spend notes as geography only — not a chase list after cash already accepted the overnight spend:

  • Morning daily field (Wed-anchored): ES 7,486.45–7,626.55 · NQ 28,623.31–29,303.69 · CL 99.35–105.51
  • Overnight through-+2SD on ES/NQ/YM/RTY was the spent upside cash accepted
  • Big round 750 (desk room) kept rejecting into the lunch window — process note, not a forecast

Process only: arm at the print. If you are not there, missed = no chase. Green cash after an overnight +2SD tag is not a makeup invitation to invent size into Asia off a spent band.

Room note — UW as POI, big levels, points not dollars

The Discord tape today was process, not a dollar scoreboard. PuaPau was still in a trade into the Hawaii breakfast window, pointed at UWs as the point of interest, and called the session when price kept rejecting the 750 big level — "until that target is proven invalid that is my bias." On points traveled: "that was almost my biggest trade ever, as far as points travelled, missed it by 9 points!" Member FitForFutures (in Hawaii for a gig) marked the same move as fun and later: "holy!!!!!!!!! 400 points!" ekollon: "this here is a certified hold." Late tape from PuaPau: "those big levels though! it's almost like they matter, every break gave a retest." The alerts channel also flags levels like that UW so the room is not hunting blind. No confirmed desk P&L for today’s print — do not invent one. #profits-n-lessons stayed empty this window.

What Asia and London inherit

Overnight does not reset the week. It inherits six open facts:

  1. Overnight through-+2SD tags became cash acceptance. Prep’s ES/NQ/YM/RTY through-+2SD geography on Globex was answered green on the cash indexes (AP). Spent upside on the Wednesday-anchored map is not a fresh long chase into Asia just because cash held it.
  2. Green Thursday after soft Wednesday. Friday closed green open-to-close. Monday closed soft versus that prior close. Tuesday closed soft. Wednesday closed soft — Dow led; Nasdaq nearly flat — and the hike printed. Thursday closed green versus Wednesday’s soft prior close. Keep the sentences separate. The week scoreboard is still soft on S&P/Dow even with Nasdaq week-to-date green.
  3. The vote stays printed. Funds range 3.75%–4.00%, 12–0. SEP medians: funds 4.1; PCE 3.7. Green repair does not invent the next meeting’s decision.
  4. Housing/claims/Philly/pending homes were morning context. Starts softer on the total with SF rebound; claims 196k; Philly 37.8; pending +0.3%. On the tape as context — not a separate thesis to re-trade overnight.
  5. CL cooled further on the daily (~101.27 house board). Daily cool is not a higher-timeframe reset. HTF stretch still loud.
  6. Asia and London already closed before the U.S. cash finish. Nikkei 64,136 (+0.3%). STOXX 600 642.6 (+0.9%). Fri Asia inherits accepted overnight geography plus sealed path — and Friday’s G.17 Industrial Production at 9:15 ET.

Use the September 16-anchored daily field from Thursday’s RTH Market Prep as overnight geography until a new verified map is on the card. Write size and invalidation before the next impulse — not after. Cite morning bands plus spend notes; do not invent a fresh post-close expected-move table from tonight’s lasts.

Daily Expected-Move Map

Verified from the house expected-moves publisher off the 2026-09-16 close — Thursday RTH Market Prep table only. Not a forecast. Overnight + cash already spent part of this field — especially ES/NQ/YM/RTY overnight through +2SD and green cash acceptance. Do not invent new bands from Thursday’s close.

What this close does not do

It does not invent the next hike. It does not turn green cash into a blank check to chase a spent +2SD band into Asia. It does not collapse Friday’s green open-to-close, three soft cash days, Wednesday’s printed vote, and Thursday’s repair into one sentence. It does not treat a daily oil cool as a higher-timeframe reset. It does not pull Friday’s industrial production into Thursday size.

Steal this / leave that

Steal this: Mark the overnight through-+2SD spend that cash accepted before you invent a second chase. Keep soft Wednesday — hike printed, Dow soft, Nasdaq nearly flat — separate from green Thursday open-to-close. Respect claims 196k, starts mix (total soft / SF rebound), Philly 37.8, and pending +0.3% as context. Keep UW / big-level process from the room without inventing P&L. Write invalidation against what remains of the Wednesday-anchored field. Friday is G.17.

Leave that: Chasing Nasdaq higher into Asia as if the +2SD field were fresh. Treating green cash as a re-vote of the sealed path. Averaging housing prints into leftover overnight size. Inventing desk dollars from room banter. Pulling Friday industrial production into tonight’s card.

Thursday accepted what Globex already spent. Soft Wednesday was the prior close. Path still inherits 3.75–4.00. Respect the spend — or stay flat.

Ladder Left Behind. Cash Went Green. Michigan Soft.

Prep asked oil continuation only at the overnight ladder. Cash printed lower on the CL tickets while equities closed green into the weekend. Final Michigan soft at 48.1 — separate the oil miss from the green cash.
