Overnight Through +2SD. Soft After the Hike. Housing Clocks.
Overnight bid through daily +2SD on ES, NQ, YM, and RTY after Wednesday’s soft cash close and the printed hike. Gold sits inside the new daily 1SD field. Housing, claims, and Philly Fed print at 8:30 a.m. Eastern. Pending Home Sales at 10:00. Thursday inherits the sealed path.
Thursday, September 17, 2026
Cash closed soft on Wednesday versus Tuesday’s already soft prior close — after the FOMC raised the funds range 25 basis points to 3.75%–4.00% on a 12–0 vote. Into this Hawaii window the new daily map — anchored to Wednesday’s settle — already shows overnight bid through daily +2SD on ES, NQ, YM, and RTY. Gold sits inside the new daily 1SD field. Crude cooled inside the lower half of its new daily band while higher-timeframe stretch stays loud. Census New Residential Construction, DOL weekly claims, and the Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing survey print at 8:30 a.m. Eastern. NAR Pending Home Sales lands at 10:00. Thursday inherits the sealed path. It does not re-vote.
RTH Market Prep is the day clock, not a forecast. Thursday’s job is not to invent the next hike. It is to mark what Globex already spent on the new Wednesday-anchored map, write size against what is left, treat the morning housing and claims cluster as context for path inheritance — not a separate max-size invitation to chase a spent +2SD band — and keep statement-already-printed separate from cash acceptance of overnight geography. Weekend Review left the operating rule on the desk: wait for the location, set the alert, live off the charts. Missed fills stay missed.
This note does not rewrite Week Ahead, September 14–18. Wednesday’s RTH Market Prep framed Retail → statement as one sequence and marked overnight through-+1SD on the Tuesday-anchored map. Soft cash answered that overnight bid. The vote printed. That handoff still holds — with a new daily field for Thursday.
Confirmed clocks
All times Eastern. Cash open is 3:30 a.m. Hawaii.
| Time (ET) | What is confirmed | Status / desk use |

| Fri Sep 11 cash | Equities closed green from the open (ABC: S&P 7,656.98 +0.9%, Dow 52,573.29 +1%, Nasdaq 26,333.04 +1%). | Cash open-to-close. |
| Fri Sep 11 week scoreboard | Week still finished red close-to-close. | Distinct from Friday’s green cash session. |
| Mon–Tue cash | Equities closed soft Monday vs Friday; closed soft again Tuesday (AP). | Soft follow-through into the meeting. |
| Wed Sep 16 cash | Equities closed soft again (AP/WTOP: S&P 7,551.81 −33.92 / −0.4%, Dow 51,461.90 −631.21 / −1.2%, Nasdaq 25,978.42 −3.15 / nearly flat, Russell 2,858.81 −11.47 / −0.4%). | Soft open-to-close. Third soft cash day. Dow led; Nasdaq nearly flat. |

| Wed Sep 16 morning | Census Advance Retail Sales August +1.2% was morning context into the statement. | Already on the tape. Not a Thursday thesis. |
| Thu Sep 17, 8:30 a.m. | Census New Residential Construction (August starts + preliminary permits). Same window: DOL weekly claims (week ending Sep 12) and Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Business Outlook Survey (September). | Housing + labor + regional factory cluster. | Fri Sep 18, 9:15 a.m. | Fed G.17 Industrial Production (not on today’s card). | Week Ahead Friday print. Do not pull it into Thursday size. |
What overnight already spent
Overnight bid worked through daily +2SD on the new map. House daily map is anchored to the September 16 closes from the publisher. NQ anchor 28,963.50; daily 1SD 28,623.31 – 29,303.69 (±340.19); daily 2SD high 29,643.89. Into this Hawaii window last near 29,741 with a high near 29,753 — through daily +2SD. ES anchor 7,556.50; daily 1SD 7,486.45 – 7,626.55; daily 2SD high 7,696.60; last near 7,721 with a high near 7,722 — same through-+2SD pattern. YM last near 52,557 through daily +2SD 52,462. RTY last near 2,922.90 through daily +2SD 2,914.75. That is spent geography on the easy upside of Wednesday’s soft-close field after a printed hike — not a free invitation to invent a second chase after the tag.
Gold is inside the new daily field; crude cooled toward the lower edge. GC last near 4,408.20 inside daily 1SD 4,326.53 – 4,448.47. CL daily map is anchored to Wednesday’s 102.43 settle. Daily 1SD 99.35 – 105.51 (±3.08). Last near 99.81 — inside the lower half / near the −1SD edge after the soft cash close. Monthly +1SD and quarterly +2SD stretch from the summer maps remain loud on the house publisher. Cooling inside the new daily field is not a higher-timeframe reset.
Wednesday’s soft cash session is the prior close that reset this field. Friday’s cash session closed green open-to-close. Monday closed soft versus that prior close. Tuesday closed soft again. Wednesday closed soft again — Dow led; Nasdaq nearly flat — and the statement printed 3.75%–4.00%. Those stay separate sentences. Overnight Globex bid does not rewrite soft cash acceptance, and it does not reopen the vote.
What Thursday has to prove
Does Wednesday’s soft close hold as repair geography after a printed hike, or does cash reject the overnight through-+2SD bid into the housing/claims cluster. Week Ahead already framed Thursday as the housing day after Wednesday’s policy vote. Overnight already used through +2SD of the new map on the indexes. What is left is whether cash accepts that overnight geography through the 8:30 window — with size written against the leftover field — and whether the sealed SEP path (funds 4.1 / PCE 3.7) is treated as inheritance, not as a fresh decision to invent.
One sequence. Housing starts/permits, claims, and Philly Fed at 8:30 are context into path inheritance — not a separate max-size invitation after overnight already used through +2SD. Pending homes at 10:00 is a second housing clock, not a second thesis. Do not spend the afternoon card on a morning leftover after overnight already used the upper band.
Keep the Friday / Monday / Tuesday / Wednesday split honest. Equities closed green on Friday’s cash open-to-close. Equities closed soft on Monday versus that prior close. Equities closed soft again on Tuesday. Equities closed soft again on Wednesday. Overnight Globex does not collapse those into one sentence — and the printed hike does not rewrite the soft cash answer.
What not to mix
Overnight tag ≠ cash accept. An NQ or ES through-+2SD print on Globex is map. Cash still has to vote at 9:30 ET.
Housing/claims ≠ a fresh vote. Morning housing and labor context is not a license to invent the next hike — or to treat the sealed path as unsettled.
Statement already printed ≠ path to re-trade as decision. Funds range 3.75%–4.00%, 12–0. SEP medians are the path. Soft cash after the presser does not reopen the ballot.
Oil daily cool ≠ higher-timeframe reset. Daily field can refill while monthly/quarterly stretch stays loud. Respect both maps.
Through +2SD on the new map ≠ free chase. Wednesday’s soft close reset the field. Overnight already spent the easy upside. Write invalidation against what remains.
Next three steps
- Mark the overnight through-+2SD spend (ES/NQ/YM/RTY) on the Wednesday-anchored map before you trade the cash open. Gold inside 1SD and CL lower-half cool are separate sentences.
- Write 8:30 housing + claims + Philly Fed as context, not as a second thesis — and keep 10:00 pending homes as its own clock. Do not invent prints before they land.
- Treat the hike and SEP path as sealed inheritance. Size and invalidation against what is left of the daily field. Missed = no chase. Industrial production stays Friday.
Steal this / leave that
Steal this: Mark the overnight through-+2SD spend (ES/NQ/YM/RTY) before you chase higher on the new map. Keep soft Wednesday cash — Dow soft, Nasdaq nearly flat — separate from Friday’s green open-to-close. Respect the printed hike (25bp to 3.75–4.00%, 12–0) and SEP medians (funds 4.1 / PCE 3.7) as statement then path already on the tape. Write 8:30 and 10:00 as housing/labor clocks, not as a re-vote. Write invalidation against what remains of the daily field.
Leave that: Chasing Nasdaq higher after the through-+2SD tag as if the field were fresh. Treating overnight Globex repair as cash acceptance of Wednesday’s soft close. Inventing the next hike off the morning housing prints. Averaging SEP path risk into a pre-acceptance size after overnight already used the upper band. Pulling Friday’s industrial production into Thursday size.
Thursday inherits the vote. Soft cash answered overnight’s through-+1SD bid on Wednesday. Overnight already used through +2SD on the new map. Housing clocks first. Respect what Globex already spent — or stay flat.

Daily Expected-Move Map
Verified from the house expected-moves publisher off the 2026-09-16 close. Not a forecast. The statistical field the auction has to respect or reject. Into this Hawaii window overnight already worked through daily +2SD on ES, NQ, YM, and RTY on the publisher board — last still above +2SD on those indexes. Gold is inside the new daily 1SD field. Crude cooled inside the lower half of its new daily field while monthly +1SD / quarterly +2SD stretch stays loud.

| CL | 102.43 | 99.35 – 105.51 (±3.08) | 96.27 – 108.59 | Inside 1SD lower half (last ~99.81). Monthly +1SD / quarterly +2SD stretch still loud |
Weekly (anchored 2026-09-11): NQ 1SD 28,531.56 – 30,242.44 (±855.44). ES 1SD 7,491.48 – 7,827.52 (±168.02). CL weekly 1SD 91.89 – 108.21.
Vol snapshot at run: VIX 15.47% | VXN 22.44% | GVZ 26.55% | OVX 57.49%. Oil vol is not compressed. Acceptance outside what overnight already used matters more than noise inside a spent upper band.
Location, size, invalidation, and the condition that kills the idea still come first. Use the map; do not invent bands.
