Meta Found Its Muse. Oil Soft. London Gets the Handoff.
Late London Prep after Monday cash: Nasdaq printed a record as Meta ripped on Muse and oil stayed soft. AP: S&P 7,764.70 +1.5%, Dow 52,048.83 +0.7%, Nasdaq 27,122.09 +2.3%, Russell 2,875.36 +0.5%. Brent −3.4% to $100.34. Japan cash closed through Wednesday. Path still inherits 3.75–4.00.
Monday, September 21, 2026 — After the Close · London Prep edition
Late ship on purpose. This is the Monday cash close plus what Asia already did overnight into Tuesday, and what London has to live with before the U.S. speakers hit. Soft oil. Loud Meta. Nasdaq record. Path still inherits.
Morning Prep framed overnight bid through daily +1SD on the new Friday-anchored map — ES and NQ, with session highs still inside daily +2SD — as spent geography on a quiet agency Monday after a printed hike. Cash accepted that overnight spend. The S&P closed 7,764.70 (+1.5%). The Dow closed 52,048.83 (+0.7%). The Nasdaq led at 27,122.09 (+2.3%) and printed a record close. The Russell finished 2,875.36 (+0.5%). Brent settled near $100.34 (−3.4%). The 10-year eased to about 4.95%. Soft Friday was the prior close that reset the field. Green Monday was the cash answer. Path still inherits 3.75%–4.00%.
The tape's public story was not mystery. Reuters: Meta ripped after Wells Fargo lifted its target post Muse, with chips riding the same AI bid. Soft crude and softer yields cleared the path — UNGA diplomacy hopes, including Trump being open to meeting Iranian President Pezeshkian, not a signed deal. Write hope ≠ treaty.
RTH Market Prep was the day clock, not a forecast. Monday's job was to mark what Globex already spent on the new Friday-anchored field, treat a quiet agency card as map-building — not a Tier-1 thesis invent — and keep the sealed hike separate from cash acceptance of overnight geography. Cash validated the overnight through-+1SD bid as acceptance. Quiet Monday still does not authorize inventing Tuesday's speakers or Wednesday's flash PMI as already printed.
This note does not rewrite Week Ahead, September 21–25. Monday's RTH Market Prep had the overnight +1SD geography and the quiet clocks. Friday's After the Close framed the NQ extreme-to-extreme week map and left today's card sealed. That handoff flipped on acceptance — not on a re-vote.
What cash had to live with
Overnight already worked through daily +1SD on the new map. House daily field — anchored to the September 18 settles from the morning publisher — put ES daily 1SD at 7,554.54 – 7,760.16 off 7,657.35, and NQ at 29,095.79 – 30,131.57 off 29,613.68. Prep had ES last near 7,762.75 with a high near 7,771.25 through +1SD, and NQ last near 30,223 with a high near 30,275 through +1SD — highs still inside +2SD. YM through +1SD. RTY near the upper 1SD edge. Gold inside the new daily 1SD field. Crude soft versus the new weekly −1SD. That was overnight geography. Cash still had to vote.
Cash voted green — and Nasdaq printed a record. Associated Press (via WTOP): S&P 7,764.70 (+114.20 / +1.5% vs Fri 7,650.50), Dow 52,048.83 (+366.19 / +0.7%), Nasdaq 27,122.09 (+599.55 / +2.3%), Russell 2,875.36 (+14.96 / +0.5%). Soft Friday was the prior close. Green Monday was the cash answer. Keep those as two sentences. Reuters: first Nasdaq record close since June 2; chips and AI led the tape after last week's safety-scare slide. Soft Friday mixed finish and Monday's green open-to-close stay separate — do not collapse them into one week sentence just because both sit after the hike.
Do not conflate cash with futures last. On the house futures board, ES printed a high near 7,847.25 — through +1SD and still inside +2SD — and closed near 7,829.5. NQ printed a high near 30,862.75 and closed near 30,775 — through +1SD and through +2SD on the Friday-anchored field. Cash open-to-close is the equity vote. Futures last is a different sentence. Absolute CME settles stay held until a settled board is verified.
Quiet Monday clocks held. No Tier-1 US agency print on the Board/Census calendars. Treasury auction windows are liquidity and rates color — not a macro thesis to invent. Speakers still sit Tuesday. Flash PMI still sits Wednesday. Monday's job was location, not a rewrite of Week Ahead.
Statement already printed. Paths still inherit. Wednesday's vote — funds range 3.75%–4.00%, 12–0, SEP medians funds 4.1 / PCE 3.7 — stays on the tape. Monday's green cash does not reopen the ballot. AP's tape context: 10-year yield eased to about 4.95% from Friday's ~5.01% / 5.00% area; Brent fell 3.4% to settle $100.34. House board: CL last near 91.88 after Friday's 100.30 anchor — further soft versus the weekly −1SD edge while higher-timeframe stretch stays loud. Gold last near 4,379 inside the Prep daily 1SD band.
Vol stayed compressed on the equity gauge; Nasdaq vol firmed a touch. Into the close (house board): VIX 14.87 (Fri 14.81), VXN 20.39 (Fri 19.29), GVZ 23.38, OVX 50.31. Morning Prep EM run already had VIX 14.87 with OVX still loud at 50.39. Oil vol cooled a hair and is still not "quiet."
Locations — reference only
No new Monday Daily/1h stack grades were verified for this close. Treat morning Prep bands and overnight spend notes as geography only — not a chase list after cash already accepted the overnight spend:
- Morning daily field (Fri-anchored): ES 7,554.54–7,760.16 · NQ 29,095.79–30,131.57 · CL 95.72–104.88
- Overnight through-+1SD on ES/NQ was the spent upside cash accepted; house NQ then spent through +2SD into the cash day
- Desk room watched big levels and process (ES 825 neighborhood as a watch; reclaim-as-support talk) — process notes, not a forecast
Process only: arm at the print. If you are not there, missed = no chase. Green cash after an overnight +1SD tag is not a makeup invitation to invent size into Asia off a spent band — especially after NQ already used through +2SD on the house board.
Room note — bias off, oil↔NQ, line in the sand
The Discord tape today was process, not a dollar scoreboard. #profits-n-lessons stayed empty this window. Into the overnight run, Captain Anginka dropped the short bias on purpose — "that is one thing that improved my trading the most . trying to have no bias" — watched the PA, and later said he managed to "lock it out green" without stating dollars. On why the tape kept going: oil soft and reclaim-up levels turning into support. Michael kept the opposite-strength read on the table — "oil is moving really strong in one direction NASDAQ is most likely moving really strong in the opposite direction" — watched 825 on ES, then mid-cash: "I didn't just hold it I added to it" and "that was my line in the sand" on the orange level that violated then closed back at the level so he stayed. Tooling talk stayed process: modified Gann box, fibs for projections, rejection blocks, UW examples on the daily. Upcoming UW / imbalance teaching posts flagged for the room. No confirmed desk P&L for today's print — do not invent one.
Asia overnight — what already printed into London
Japan cash stayed dark. Tokyo is closed Mon–Wed Sep 21–23 for Respect for the Aged Day / Silver Week (citizens' holiday + Autumnal Equinox). Nikkei cash resumes Thursday Sep 24. JPX holiday futures can still trade — cash does not.
The rest of Asia was early/open green into Tuesday — not final closes (session still live at the HT stamp):
- Hang Seng early +0.51% to 25,170 (RTHK); AP early ~+0.6% to 25,185.26
- Shanghai Composite open +0.35% to 3,963 (RTHK); AP early +0.4% to 3,964.45
- Shenzhen Component open +0.94% to 13,858 (RTHK)
- Kospi AP early +1.6% to 7,120.25; RTHK noted a surge ~+2.2% to 7,161 then a pullback
- S&P/ASX 200 AP early +0.2% to 8,748.20
- MSCI Asia ex-Japan early green on the AI handoff (wire color — no official close invented here)
U.S. equity futures were essentially flat versus prior futures on the house board — ES last near 7,837.75 vs prior ~7,833.5; NQ last near 30,787.75 vs prior ~30,784.75. Compare futures to prior futures, not to Monday's cash print. Those lasts are not CME settles. Brent steadied near the $100 handle after Monday's slide. Reuters Monday: Trump was open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at UNGA — diplomacy hope ≠ signed deal. Hormuz / supply risk is not extinguished. Treat Asia as confirmation of Monday's AI/oil handoff, not a rewrite of the Friday-anchored map.
London watch — what can move the handoff
London opens into a thin Japan week and a U.S. speaker-heavy Tuesday. London cash is roughly 8:00–16:30 UK (3:00–11:30 a.m. ET). Items after ~11:30 a.m. ET land after London cash.
| Time | Item | London → NY |
|---|---|---|
| 7:00 a.m. UK | UK ONS public-sector finances (August) | London morning — UK rates/gilts color; not US Tier-1 |
| Before US open | AutoZone (AZO) Q4 | BMO print (late London morning / early afternoon) + call 10:00 a.m. ET (London afternoon) |
| 10:00 a.m. ET / 15:00 UK | Richmond Fed Manufacturing | London afternoon — into the speaker window |
| 10:05 a.m. ET / 15:05 UK | John Williams | London afternoon — NY Fed Treasury Market Conference |
| 10:20 a.m. ET / 15:20 UK | Philip Jefferson | London afternoon — Fed Vice Chair, same conference |
| 1:00 p.m. ET / 18:00 UK | Thomas Barkin | After London cash — NY afternoon, CFA Baltimore |
| Session | CL October expiry | London afternoon into NY; roll noise; UNGA/Pezeshkian hope ≠ deal |
Also live midweek clocks still ahead: flash PMI Wednesday. Path still inherits 3.75%–4.00% — green Monday and firm Asia do not reopen the ballot.
Process for London: map first. Do not chase Monday's spent NQ +2SD geography just because Asia printed green. Oil soft is context, not a blank check. Speakers can move yields — size against invalidation, not against the headline.
What Asia and London inherit
Overnight does not reset the week. It inherits six open facts:
- Overnight through-+1SD tags became cash acceptance. Prep's ES/NQ through-+1SD geography on Globex was answered green on the cash indexes (AP), with Nasdaq at a record. Spent upside on the Friday-anchored map is not a fresh long chase into London just because cash held it — and house NQ already used through +2SD.
- Green Monday after mixed Friday. Soft Friday was the prior close that reset the daily field. Green Monday was the cash answer. Keep the sentences separate.
- The vote stays printed. Funds range 3.75%–4.00%, 12–0. SEP medians: funds 4.1; PCE 3.7.
- Quiet Monday was map day. Williams / Jefferson / Barkin Tuesday and flash PMI Wednesday are the first live midweek clocks — still ahead.
- CL soft further on the daily (~91.88 house board; Brent settle $100.34). Daily/weekly cool is not a higher-timeframe reset. HTF stretch still loud. UNGA/Pezeshkian hope ≠ signed deal.
- Japan cash holiday through Wednesday. Asia ex-Japan was early/open green — not final closes. London inherits accepted overnight geography plus a speaker slate — not a blank Monday rewrite.
Use the September 18-anchored daily field from Monday's RTH Market Prep as overnight geography until a new verified map is on the card. Write size and invalidation before the next impulse — not after.
Daily Expected-Move Map
Verified from the house expected-moves publisher off the 2026-09-18 close — Monday RTH Market Prep table only. Not a forecast. Overnight + cash already spent part of this field — especially ES/NQ overnight through +1SD, cash acceptance, and house NQ through +2SD. Do not invent new bands from Monday's close.
| Contract | Anchor Close | Daily 1SD | Daily 2SD | Spend note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ES | 7,657.35 | 7,554.54 – 7,760.16 (±102.81) | 7,451.72 – 7,862.98 | Overnight H through +1SD; session H ~7,847 inside +2SD; cash green (AP S&P 7,764.70); futures last ~7,829.5 — do not conflate |
| NQ | 29,613.68 | 29,095.79 – 30,131.57 (±517.89) | 28,577.90 – 30,649.46 | Overnight through +1SD; session H/C through +2SD; cash Nasdaq 27,122.09 record |
| YM | 51,761 | 51,066 – 52,456 (±695) | 50,371 – 53,151 | Cash Dow green (52,048.83 AP) |
| RTY | 2,873.23 | 2,834.65 – 2,911.81 (±38.58) | 2,796.07 – 2,950.39 | Cash RUT green (2,875.36 AP) |
| GC | 4,424.90 | 4,331.39 – 4,518.41 (±93.51) | 4,237.88 – 4,611.92 | Inside 1SD — house last ~4,379 |
| CL | 100.30 | 95.72 – 104.88 (±4.58) | 91.14 – 109.46 | Further soft — house last ~91.88 / L ~91.19; Brent settle $100.34; HTF stretch still loud |
Vol at morning EM run: VIX 14.87 | VXN 19.29 | GVZ 23.31 | OVX 50.39. Into the close (house board): VIX 14.87 | VXN 20.39 | GVZ 23.38 | OVX 50.31. Acceptance outside the remaining band matters more than noise inside what overnight and cash already used.
What this close does not do
It does not invent the next hike. It does not turn green cash into a blank check to chase a spent +1SD / +2SD band into London. It does not collapse Friday's mixed finish and Monday's green open-to-close into one sentence. It does not treat a daily oil cool — or diplomacy hopes — as a higher-timeframe reset or a signed ceasefire. It does not pull Tuesday's speakers or Wednesday's flash PMI into Monday size.
Steal this / leave that
Steal this: Mark the overnight through-+1SD spend that cash accepted before you invent a second chase — especially after house NQ already used through +2SD. Keep Meta/Muse + soft oil as the public catalyst spine without inventing a peace deal. Keep mixed Friday separate from green Monday. Respect Brent $100.34 / 10y ~4.95% as context. Bias-off / oil↔NQ / line-in-the-sand process from the room without inventing P&L. London maps speakers + AZO + Richmond — then wait for the print.
Leave that: Chasing Nasdaq higher into London as if the +1SD/+2SD field were fresh. Treating green Asia as a re-vote of the sealed path. Inventing a Tier-1 Monday thesis off Treasury auctions. Inventing desk dollars from room banter. Writing "deal done" on oil diplomacy.
Monday accepted what Globex already spent. Asia mostly nodded. London gets the handoff — and the microphones. Path still inherits 3.75–4.00. Respect the spend — or stay flat.
