Wholesale prices came in at more than double the forecast, and within 23 seconds of the 8:30 print our board put buy levels under the Russell, the Nasdaq and gold. The dip got bought wholesale. From Wednesday's 6 p.m. ET Globex reopen to Thursday's 4:00 p.m. cash close, PonoTrading's imbalance board sent 28 hourly setups, 5 Daily, and 4 Weekly to Discord — 37 SENT prints. MedianReclaim added 12 Daily median tags and 7 Weekly median tags (19 SENT rows). Twenty-five of those UW prints were the overnight prints we counted in this morning's prep (19 hourlies, 4 Daily, 2 Weekly). Twelve more came after it, seven of them in the PPI window. Eleven of the 37 were on the index board, and five of those were the Nasdaq. The levels that mattered: the NQ Daily bull 29793.25 and Weekly bull 29764.75 from London, then at 8:30 a.m. RTY hourly bull 2742.2, NQ hourly bull 29735 and gold hourly bull 4161.4, and in cash an ES hourly bear 7762.5 and a YM hourly bear 52445. The last SENT print of the session came at 11:19 a.m. ET.
September's producer price index rose 1.3% on the month and 6.3% on the year. Economists polled by Dow Jones expected 0.6% and 5.5%. That's the biggest monthly jump since March 2022 and the biggest annual gain since December 2022. Core PPI, without food and energy, rose 0.7% on the month and 5.0% on the year. Energy did a lot of the work, but not all of it. Retail sales rose 0.8% against 0.4% expected. And then the bond market did the opposite of what a hot print usually does. The 10-year yield fell from 5.19% to about 5.09%, its biggest one-day drop since Aug. 1.
